Discovery Workshop - Scoping for Aligned Success

Did you know that between 50%(1) and 70%(2) of global projects finish late, deliver less scope or fail altogether? Two of the leading causes are resource (skill, eg planning; and capacity) at commencement. Our Programme Management function ensures that RedShield outperforms this statistic significantly.

One of the key activities to deliver a project well is getting aligned on the scope up front. Now sure, your Solution Architect has done a great job explaining a RedSecure, RedProtect or an MFA - but, service providers often miss things when moving from sales or project design into delivery - which is always done by a different team.

At RedShield however, we get this right in the Discovery Workshop. Here we go through key scope questions to ensure our SA, delivery team and customers are on the same page. We cover (in a simple diagram form):

  • Roles & Responsibilities
  • In and out of scope
  • Deliverables (from the quote) and requirements for both sides to achieve them
  • Focus priorities in terms of time, quality and cost
  • Timeline and key dependencies
  • Initial risks
  • Communications and coordination - such as the weekly standup.

We’ve applied best practise with this process, and we find it works well for all parties. At the end you get a Charter capturing the key aspects, and the discovery pack with any inputs each of us has made. The Charter is in plain english, is simple; and can be used as a checklist to review the project at closure to ensure customer satisfaction with deliverable completion.
